The Australian XI bowlers were frustrated by a pitch which remained a Normal Wicket and refused to wear on the final day.

Captain Steve Waugh left the field on the final day with a recurrence of his troublesome groin injury which plagued him throughout his career, leaving the captaincy in the hands of Geoff Marsh.
